My Coke Rewards Wednesday Deal: $25 Gift Certificate for Restaurant.com!

Category : Daily Deals, Free Stuff, Restaurant Deals

Today’s deal over at MyCokeRewards.com is a pretty good one! Get a $25 Gift Certificate to Restaurant.com for only 135 points!  I’ve never used Restaurant.com. It’s not an actual gift card that lets you have your meal for free, it more like $25 off a $35 purchase or something along those lines. I don’t have any participating restaurants close to me, but they do have thousands to choose from. Just be sure to check it out before redeeming this one!

FREE Stuff! Coffee, gum, glasses, & more!

Category : Activities and Entertainment, Coupon Matchups, Daily Deals, Free Stuff, Restaurant Deals

Social media has become so much more than a place to connect with friends and family. Companies have taken advantage of social media as a way to connect with consumers. My mailbox is packed with freebies at least two days per week. Most, if not all, of my freebies come from facebook.  Free samples, contests, and even full-sized free products have become the norm. You can find something for free just about everyday!  Be sure to “like” My Rubber Money on facebook and follow MyRubberMoney on Twitter to get in on all the freebies!

Some upcoming freebies that you’ll want to get in on:

Ziploc is giving away $500 to 5 people everyday through 6/17.

Bounty is giving away 5,000 $5 coupons every Friday in June.

UP2U by Mentos is giving away FREE gum! (I think it’s at noon daily).

Wella Professionals is having a giveaway at 10 am today! (6/16)

Nescafe USA is giving away FREE samples on their page.

Get a FREE Shout Color Catcher on facebook.

Scrubbing Bubbles has a fabulous giveaway twice per month (last one coming up next week!).

CoastalContacts.com is having another FREE glasses giveaway on June 23rd at noon. Just pay shipping (about $15). I love this one!

The list really does go on & on. Facebook is the place to be if you love freebies as much as I do. I didn’t even list the coupons that are available on facebook. Like your favorite companies and see what kind of offers they have available. I have even asked for coupons on the walls of several of my favorite brands and they obliged! I try to post freebies as soon as the companies post them, so don’t forget to “like” MyRubberMoney first!

Tornado Relief Efforts

April 27th was a day of devastation and destruction in the South. Family, friends, and neighbors have lost their homes, posessions, pets, and loved ones. I have never seen anything like the devastation that surrounds me and am beyond blessed to have escaped unharmed. Many of you have asked how you can help. The communities have come together and are truly reaching out to those who have been affected. There, but for the Grace of God, go I.

Here are ways YOU can help.

  • Pray! People need prayer more than anything right now.
  • Blood Assurance needs donations! Especially O- and B-. It won’t cost you a thing but time and a tiny bit of pain. Call 800 962-0628 for more information.
  • The Red Cross is out in full force in the affected areas. To make a donation, visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
  • The Salvation Army is also highly visible in the area. They are out in force and not leaving anytime soon. The Salvation Army asks those who want to help to visit www.salvationarmyusa.org or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY and designate April 2011 Tornado Outbreak.  Donors may text “GIVE” to 80888.
  • Ace & TJ from Kiss FM are raising money for Alabama victims. Get more information here: http://www.acetj.com/tornado.php
  • Chattanooga Relief Radio & TV stations have teamed up with Bi-Lo and are accepting donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries. Read about it here: http://www.kisschattanooga.com/pages/help.html
  • CLEVELAND, TN: There is a drop off point at Park View Elementary. Right now they need hamburger and hot dog buns, ice, diapers, and toiletries. They will be accepting donations all day today.
  • CLEVELAND, TN: Candies Creek Baptist coordinating volunteers. To help, call 423-479-3731.

There are many more churches and organizations involved in taking donations. Please keep an eye on WRCBTV.com and The Chattanooga Times Free Press for more information. Follow them on facebook to find posts from community members who are coordinating relief efforts.

Even if you don’t have money to donate, there are things you can do. If you have a decent stockpile built up from couponing, go to that stockpile now and help people who have lost everything. Donate blood or your time to the victims around you. Or, just text “Give” to 80888 to make an instant $10 donation to the Salvation Army.

If you know of other relief efforts or drop off locations, please leave a comment to let others know!

Extreme Couponing: Make it work without being extreme!

Category : Activities and Entertainment, Coupon Matchups, Daily Deals, Free Stuff, Restaurant Deals

This is a repost of an article that ran before the premiere of Extreme Couponing on TLC. With all the buzz, I thought it was worth another look.

It’s time for the premier of TLC’s Extreme Couponing! If you’ve seen or heard about the show, you may be interested but overwhelmed. While you may not start out saving thousands of dollars a week, you can make extreme couponing work for you!

The Basics

Extreme Couponing starts with coupons, of course! While the Sunday paper is an excellent resource for collecting coupons, don’t let it be your only source. The internet is jam-packed with offers from companies! There are several printable coupon resources available. You can find lots of printable coupons on the Printables page of MyRubberMoney and you can use the following links to find high dollar coupons for the things you normally buy! You can print two of each coupon per computer, so go through and choose your coupons, print them, then do it again! My favorite printable coupon resources are listed below:

Coupons.com

Target.com  (get store and manufacturer’s coupons!)

Redplum.com

SmartSource.com

Cellfire.com (no printing! Load coupons directly to your shopping card)

All You (1-year auto-renewal) Use this link to subscribe to All You magazine. It’s jam packed with high-value coupons every month!

There are a lot more resources online, but those are my favorite! You should also check your favorite companies on facebook! Companies are always offering coupons and free samples on facebook! Read about a few of them here and be sure to like MyRubberMoney to get all the latest coupons as they are posted!

The Next Step

Okay, now that you have a huge stash of coupons, what do you do with them? Well, you’ll need to organize them. Coupon organization comes down to personal preference. Some people create files for the coupon inserts they get from the Sunday paper. You file the inserts by date, and then cut the ones you need as you need them.  I prefer to cut my coupons while I’m watching TV and put them in a spiral bound photo album. Other people use a 3 ring binder with baseball card holders to organize. With this organization method, you can see what you have as you go through the store. I organize my coupons the way my store is laid out; produce (rare), grocery, fridge/frozen, dairy, etc.  Read more about it here.

Find the Best Deals

Now that you have your coupons organized, it’s time to use them to maximize your savings. Just using coupons is helpful, but combining a coupon with a sale is what leads to the most savings! You could peruse the sales flyers from your local grocery stores, match sale items with the coupons you have, and build your list that way. OR, you could just find a blogger that does it for you! No matter where you shop, there is probably a blogger who does coupon matchups for you every week! If you live in the south, you should use SouthernSavers.com. Jenny, who owns the site, provides matchups for most southern grocery store chains! Just find your store in the top menu (some are under “other”), click on the latest post, and you’ll find a complete list of what’s on sale and which coupons to use to get the best deal. If you live in the Polk County area of Tennessee, you’ll find IGA & Dollar Store matchups right here on MyRubberMoney.com! In the New York area, check out Brooklyn Bargainista.  If you can’t find your stores at these blogs, just do a google search for “Your Store Name Coupon Matchups” and you’ll most likely find a blogger who has done all the work for you.

When you find an extra good deal, start to build your stockpile. You should have at least a month’s worth of food and household supplies in your stockpile, but there is really no need to take it as far as you’ve seen on TLC’s Extreme Couponing.  Nobody really needs a 40 year supply of toilet paper. It’s so important to become familiar with coupon etiquette as you get started. I’ve outlined the rules here. Take only what you need and leave some deals for others who may need them even more than you do.

Learning to use coupons effectively can have a major positive impact on the life of your family. With the incredible rise in the price of everything, couponing is an important step in stretching your dollars. Realistically, you may not walk out of the grocery store with $1,000 worth of stuff for $100. But you just might be able to cut your food bill in half with just a little effort.

Taking it one step further

You now have the tools to stretch your family’s food budget, but what about everything else? That’s where the Daily Deals sites come in! If you’ve never heard of them, these sites offer a local or national deal every day. You can get movie tickets, a massage, dance classes, and more!  And they’re aimed at your area! Just sign up, and get a new deal every day.  Here are my favorites:

Groupon
Groupon is the grand daddy of them all. Fabulous deals on activities and entertainment, restaurants, online deals and more! Just click the link above!

LivingSocial is another daily deal site with tons of acivities, entertainment, and restaurant deals!
Eversave.com
Eversave is probably the 3rd most popular daily deal site on the web. Click the link above to check it out now.

Tippr is an up & coming daily deal site with limited cities, but lots of online deals to make up for it. Just click the image above to get started!

Buy With Me is another up & comer. Right now it is only valid in Boston, NYC, San Diego, DC, Phoenix, Philly, LA, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, Austin. If you live in one of these cities, or are planning to vacation there, check this one out!
Zulily
Zulily is aimed at moms, babies, and kids. Use the link above to get great deals!

Totsy

Totsy is another great one for moms, babies, and kids.

Start your Journey

Whether you are interested in extreme couponing just to help make ends meet (like me) or to put more money in your nest egg, retirement account, or vacation savings (like I want to), it’s time to start your journey. It’s your money. Stretch it as far as you can. Don’t pay full price if you don’t have to…and most of the time, you don’t have to!

Fun and FREE Things to do This Weekend!

Category : Activities and Entertainment, Daily Deals, Free Stuff, Restaurant Deals

It’s the first Saturday of the month! Time for some fun, free activities! First, stop by a participating Chick-fil-a in your PJ’s from 8-10 am to get a FREE chicken biscuit.

Once you’ve had your fill, head on over to The Home Depot for a free project for kids from 9am-12pm. This month’s project is a race car, but don’t let that stop you from taking your girls! They love it, too.  I’m not sure about this one, but the last vehicle we did was a bit of a nightmare…but, it was a fire truck with ladders, so maybe this one will be easier.

After you’ve worked up an appetite with all that hammering & hard work, have lunch at Steak ’n Shake where kids eat FREE all weekend with purchase of adult entree (One free kid’s plate for every $8 spent)! Not enough free food for you? How about some breakfast for dinner? From 4-8pm, kids eat FREE at IHOP with the purchase of an adult entree.

Want to find a truly awesome deal? Check with your local Goodwill Store to see if tomorrow is the day they have their Saturday Sale. In most stores, the first Saturday of the month is the store wide half-off sale. Everything in the store (except the outlet) is 50% off! Goodwill can be a fabulous place to shop, especially in affluent communities, and half-off makes it even better!

If you live close to museums, art galleries, or a zoo, check with them to see if they offer free admission this weekend. Most museums offer at least one free admission day per month, and lots of times, it’s the first Saturday.

Be sure to check with your local stores & restaurants to make sure they are participating before heading out. These deals sometimes vary by location.

Have a great weekend!

Do you know of another fun and free activity happening this weekend? Please leave a comment to let others know!
