Smokers: Have you tried e-cigs? Blu Review!

Category : Daily Deals, Health & Beauty, Product Reviews

I started smoking when I was a teenager because I somehow thought it was cool. I have continued to smoke for 20 years because smoking is addictive. If I could go back and slap that first cigarette out of my 15 year old hand, I assure you I would. I’ve tried to quit, but just can’t seem to do it. I hate smoking. I hate the smell, the cough, the example I’m setting, and I really really hate the cost! When I buy a pack of cigarettes, it’s like I’m taking a $5 bill and setting it on fire.

I am a teacher and a parent. Kids look up to me. I don’t ever want a child to see me with a cigarette and think it’s a good thing. I try to sneak around & hide it and I always have a stash of gum to cover my stinky breath along with wet wipes to wash my hands. Still, I can’t put the cigarettes down. I’ve tried the patch, I’ve tried the gum… none of it worked for me.

Well, let me tell you… I have found my new cigarette! I had heard of e-cigarettes and they sounded like a good idea, but I just didn’t want to take that step and actually spend the money on something I wasn’t sure I would like. So, I did my research. An e-cigarette is the size and shape of a regular cigarette. It is basically a vaporizer for nicotine. I must’ve read dozens of reviews on dozens of e-cigarettes. While a couple of them sounded better than Blu in the reviews, they were just too expensive. Here’s why I ordered a blu e-cig:

  • It’s cheap. For $69.95, you get 2 batteries (the part that lights up), a really cool pack that holds your e-cig and 5 extra cartridges, 2 chargers: the pack is a portable charger and you also get a usb charger, and a 5 pack of cartridges (your choice of flavor & strength).
  • There is a 30 day money back guarantee! If it’s not for you, just send it back & get a refund!
  • FREE shipping. I actually only paid $69.95 total!
  • The “smoke juice” is Made in the USA! I wish the entire thing was made here, but at least the refills are!
  • Refills are cheap. If you order 4 or more refill packs, they are only $9.60 per pack. A refill pack consists of 5 cartridges. Each cartridge is about the equivalent of 1 pack of cigarettes. Again, FREE shipping. That comes to $1.90 per “pack” of cigarettes.

When comparing e-cigarettes, blu definitely has the best value. The starter kit comes with soooo many extras! I absolutely love the charger pack and the extra battery. They definitely come in handy! The money back guarantee was what really sold me on this one. It’s kind of like a free sample that you have to rent for a while ;-)

I’ve had my blu for about 3 weeks and I’m thrilled with it. I bought the “classic tobacco” in light and full flavor (which really has to do with the amount of nicotine in the cartridge). The flavor reminds me of coffee or chocolate. There is no smell, no ashes, no tar, no looking for a place to hide. You can “smoke” blu anywhere. You’re exhaling water vapor and it doesn’t linger in the air.

I continued to smoke regular cigarettes for the first week, but only about 2 to 4 per day (you know, that after meal smoke). Now when I smoke a real cigarette, the smell and taste are overwhelming. I can’t even make it through half of one. Yippee!!! I’m not nicotine free, but I’m basically smoke free. It’s cheaper, cleaner, and I get the same satisfaction.

If you’ve been thinking about it, you can’t go wrong with blu. It’s a great value and if you don’t like it, just get your money back! If you’ve used an e-cigarette, I would love to know what you think!

Keurig Brew Over Ice “House” Party & Review

Category : Food & Beverages, Product Reviews

I spoiled myself with a Keurig earlier this year after falling in love with it at my sister’s house. You can read my original Keurig review here.  Not only does it brew the most amazing cup of coffee in about a minute, but it also brews fabulous iced beverages! You simply fill a cup with ice, pop in the specially made Brew Over Ice K-cup, select the 6 or 8 oz brew size, and enjoy your iced coffee or tea!

I’m a fan of Keurig and Brew Over Ice on facebook, and after interacting on the Brew Over Ice page several times, I got an invitation to host a house party for them! I love the product, so I immediately and very excitedly agreed and sent them my address. Just a couple of weeks later, they shipped me a brand new Keurig machine, 5 Brew Over Ice tumblers, and 5 sample packs of iced coffee and tea K-cups.

A house party would be great, but I work at a whitewater rafting company in the summer, and sometimes feel like I live there. So, after talking to my coworkers at Ocoee Outdoors, we decided to have our “house party” at work! Our office is outside and the weather in Southeast TN is HOT. Iced beverages at our fingertips? Yes, please!

I brought everything in this morning and got it all set up. I brought in some extra K-cups from home so that we could have hot coffee, too.  One of my coworkers, James, already has a Keurig at home, so he went straight for the coffee. He brewed a Rodeo Drive blend and went back for seconds. Rodeo Drive is a Wolfgang Puck brew. It has a smooth flavor and is a medium roast.

Even at 8:00 in the morning, it was already getting too hot for coffee, so we were soon ready to Brew Over Ice.  Courtney was excited to use the machine, but is a bit of a tea snob. She is very particular about her tea and wasn’t so sure she would like it. She started with a Southern Sweet Tea K-cup. She loved it! If Courtney likes it, it must be good. I also started off with Southern Sweet Tea, as did JT & Dawn. I’ve been a huge fan of it for months, but this was their first time trying it. Everyone loved it.  Brenda went out on a limb and tried the Sweet Raspberry Tea. She said it was a little bitter and not quite sweet enough. I happen to agree. It’s good, but if you like your sweet tea really sweet, this one is lacking in that department. When she switched over to Southern Sweet, she was just as thrilled as the rest of us.

None of us are really iced coffee fans, but we were having so much fun, we decided to try it. I had an iced Nantucket Blend by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. I drink my coffee black, but I’ve never seen anyone drink iced coffee black, so I added a shot of White Chocolate Mocha creamer. I didn’t like it. I just can’t stand to have anything other than coffee in my coffee. So, I tried an iced cup of French Vanilla with nothing added. It was much better that way. Dawn decided to try it too, so she chose to start with the Nantucket blend. Again, she’s not an iced coffee drinker and wasn’t thrilled with it (although she sure did drain the cup!).

Overall, we had a blast and everyone loved the Brew Over Ice K-cups! I somehow ended up only getting pictures of Courtney and one of her and Dawn enjoying their tea together. Check it out!

We’re all set up and ready!

Courtney chose Southern Sweet Tea (our favorite!)

Time to brew!

Dawn & Courtney enjoying some fresh brewed sweet tea! Cheers!

Thanks for the refreshment, Keurig & Brew Over Ice!

Tornado Relief Efforts

April 27th was a day of devastation and destruction in the South. Family, friends, and neighbors have lost their homes, posessions, pets, and loved ones. I have never seen anything like the devastation that surrounds me and am beyond blessed to have escaped unharmed. Many of you have asked how you can help. The communities have come together and are truly reaching out to those who have been affected. There, but for the Grace of God, go I.

Here are ways YOU can help.

  • Pray! People need prayer more than anything right now.
  • Blood Assurance needs donations! Especially O- and B-. It won’t cost you a thing but time and a tiny bit of pain. Call 800 962-0628 for more information.
  • The Red Cross is out in full force in the affected areas. To make a donation, visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
  • The Salvation Army is also highly visible in the area. They are out in force and not leaving anytime soon. The Salvation Army asks those who want to help to visit www.salvationarmyusa.org or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY and designate April 2011 Tornado Outbreak.  Donors may text “GIVE” to 80888.
  • Ace & TJ from Kiss FM are raising money for Alabama victims. Get more information here: http://www.acetj.com/tornado.php
  • Chattanooga Relief Radio & TV stations have teamed up with Bi-Lo and are accepting donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries. Read about it here: http://www.kisschattanooga.com/pages/help.html
  • CLEVELAND, TN: There is a drop off point at Park View Elementary. Right now they need hamburger and hot dog buns, ice, diapers, and toiletries. They will be accepting donations all day today.
  • CLEVELAND, TN: Candies Creek Baptist coordinating volunteers. To help, call 423-479-3731.

There are many more churches and organizations involved in taking donations. Please keep an eye on WRCBTV.com and The Chattanooga Times Free Press for more information. Follow them on facebook to find posts from community members who are coordinating relief efforts.

Even if you don’t have money to donate, there are things you can do. If you have a decent stockpile built up from couponing, go to that stockpile now and help people who have lost everything. Donate blood or your time to the victims around you. Or, just text “Give” to 80888 to make an instant $10 donation to the Salvation Army.

If you know of other relief efforts or drop off locations, please leave a comment to let others know!

Keurig K-Cups: Best Prices Right Now

Category : Daily Deals, Food & Beverages

I decided to spend some money on me this year and bought myself a Keurig. I absolutely love it! What I don’t love is the cost. I stocked up on K-Cups at Bed, Bath, and Beyond (with my 20% off coupon, of course!) when I got the machine, but I didn’t care for several of the varieties I ended up with. I sold the ones I didn’t like on ebay, then used that money to stock up again. Now, I’m out. I have nothing left to sell and I find it really hard to justify the cost. I have the My K-Cup accessory, but for some reason, it makes my regular coffee taste pretty bad. So, I’ve been researching the best prices on K-Cups. Here’s what I’ve found…

  • Amazon is the winner! There are, of course, different prices depending on the variety. For the most part, you can get a pack of 50 K-Cups for $27.75 with FREE shipping which makes it about $0.55 per cup. The best deal I found is for Timothy’s Breakfast Blend (Timothy’s is my favorite so far), 48 K-Cups for $23.70 which makes them $0.49 each. The catch here is that the FREE shipping is for orders over $25, so you’ll have to add another $1.30 to your order. Check out the Amazon deals here:
  • Amazon K-Cups

  • Green Mountain Coffee Roasters comes in second if you sign up for Cafe Express service. When you sign up for Cafe Express, they will ship your order automatically every month or so. A box of 24 K-Cups is only $12.95 right now, which makes it $0.53 per cup. But, in order to get FREE shipping, you’ll have to order 4 boxes. The regular price on this site is $13.95, so I don’t know how long this sale will last.
  • Coffee.org offers the same prices as Green Mountain, but you also have to join the club to get the price. You can cancel anytime, though. To get FREE shipping here, you have to spend $75. Ouch! If your order is less than $75, you’ll be paying at least $7.95 shipping. The one amazing thing I did find is a fabulous special on Timothy’s Donut Blend. Right now it’s only $10.45 for a box of 24 and that’s without the club membership! If you join the club, it’s only $8.78 per box! That comes out to $0.43 per cup at regular price or about $0.37 a cup with the club membership. And, if you’re wondering…it’s delicious! Smooth, flavorful blend at this price? Who wants to go in with me so we get free shipping? ;-) I don’t see anything saying when this deal ends, so jump on it if you’re interested.
  • Wal-Mart has K-cups as low as $0.55 each, but for the most part, they’re about $0.61 a cup. They have Sumatran Reserve priced at $19.90 for 36 K-cups (18 count, 2 pack). Most of the other varieties are $21.96 for the same quantity. They also offer FREE shipping! They have a small selection in store with an average price of $10.99 for 18 ($0.61/ea).
  • Target has a pretty decent deal, but they only sell K-Cups in 108 count size online. You can get Caribou Blend for $59.99 right now, which comes to $0.56 a cup. All other varieties are $65.99, or $0.61 each. Target does offer FREE shipping on all orders over $50, so you’ll get that! You also save 5% when you use your Red Card. Check it out here:
  • Save 5% When Using Your Target REDcard

  • Bed, Bath, and Beyond almost always has coupons floating around! Sign up for emails from them and you should get a coupon for 20% off either one item or your entire purchase in-store. They have the biggest selection I’ve seen in-store for K-Cups, too. Right now, they have K-cups for $10.99 for a box of 18. This makes them about $0.61 each. Right now they also have FREE shipping on K-Cups, so now would be the time to order if you’re doing it from BB&B.
  • Keurig.com is where I have bought K-cups in the past. When you register your brewer, they email you a coupon code giving you 2 free boxes when you buy 2. Man, I wish I had another of those codes! The regular deal on Keurig.com is $13.90 per box of 24 with FREE shipping on orders over $45. You do get points for every dollar you spend there, and you can use your points to get discounts on brewers and accessories. K-Cups come out to about $0.63 each here.

There are other places to get K-Cups, but they’re all about the same. Kohl’s is the most expensive right now coming in at a whopping $0.72 per cup, but they do have sales often and you can almost always find coupons for Kohl’s! JC Penney’s prices are about the same as Target, $59.99 for 108 K-Cups with FREE shipping to the store or $10.99 for a box of 18. CoffeeForLess.com has decent prices, but still not better than Amazon.  If you find K-Cups at a great price, please leave a comment or Contact Me! I am always searching for deals on K-Cups!

***Update***

Thanks for the heads up from Melissa V. on facebook, you can enter the Perfect K-Cup Sweepstakes for a chance to win K-Cups for life, a new Keurig brewer, or a sample pack! And, if you enter through “I buy my K-Cups at the store,” you can also print a coupon for $1/2 K-Cup 12 packs!

Cascade Complete ActionPacs

Category : Household Products, Product Reviews

My sweet boyfriend likes to help me out sometimes by running the dishwasher. I truly appreciate his effort, but it makes me crazy when he doesn’t pre-rinse the dishes. Of course, my pre-rinsing is more like pre-washing. I will stand at the sink for 20 minutes nearly scrubbing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. I guess I use it more as a dish sanitizer than a dish washer. But, what’s the point if they come out dirty, right?

We’ve all seen the commercial where the chick opens the dishwasher in the morning only to find that she forgot to run it the night before. She’s left a lasagna pan, still covered in food, to sit overnight. Unrinsed, unwashed. Oh, well. She’s got Cascade Complete  Action Packs. Then we see those guys in hard hats cleaning every last bit of food off the dish. Right. Whatever. I think not.

This weekend has been a little different. I pushed myself a bit too far on Friday and have spent the last two days unable to move my head very much. Every step hurts. It hurts to bend over, it hurts to lie still. But, it happens. Things still need to get done and I don’t have a magic lamp. So, I pulled a Tim. I packed both racks of the dishwasher with dirty dishes. I didn’t rinse a thing. I didn’t expect good results, either.

I put in my Cascade Action Pack (that I bought on clearance at Target with a coupon, btw), filled the “pre-wash” dispenser with some Palmolive liquid detergent, and set the dishwasher to the “Pots & Pans” cycle…even though there were no pots or pans in it.

It worked!!!! Holy spaghetti sauce, Batman, it actually worked! The dishes were clean. I almost think it must be a fluke. Surely that can’t happen, right? The thing is, when Tim does it, I tell him I’ll run it later then take everything out & rinse it when he’s not looking. So, even though the dishwasher has been loaded dirty before, it hasn’t actually run that way. You can bet your coupons it’ll run that way from now on, though! I’m still in shock. Thank you, Cascade. I’m actually impressed. Now, if they would just go back on clearance.

I do have one question, though. There is almost always a white “coating” on my coffee cups and plastic utensils. I have some black plastic serving & mixing spoons that always come out with this weird almost soap-scum-like film. My ceramic coffee mugs have the same thing. What’s up with that? What is it? I use jet-dry, I let the dishes air-dry…It doesn’t come off, either. When I try to hand wash them to get rid of it, the spots that have the mystery coating almost act like they have Rain-X on them. We do have very hard water. IDK, if you have the same issue, please let me know…especially if you know what’s causing it and how to make it stop.

Salonpas Pain Relief Patch

Category : Health & Beauty, Product Reviews

I recently received a free sample of Salonpas Pain Relief Patches. I had seen them in stores, but never really thought about trying them. I am a chronic pain patient and have used many “pain relief” products over the past 3 years. When I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in 2008, I got hit by a car in the crosswalk as I left the ceremony. Yep, I’m one of those people you always hear about ;-) Work hard, finish school, get hit by a car on graduation day. While I’ve been in pain every day since May 4, 2008, I am blessed. I know it could have been much worse. I’ve learned to cope with the pain and still lead a pretty normal life.  I can wear a smile through almost anything.

I think my background and experience qualifies me as somewhat of an expert on pain relief products, and honestly, there really aren’t many I recommend. Yoga, stretching, heat, ice, massage, and rest are the forms of therapy I recommend and believe in most.

Okay, enough background info, on to the product! I ordered this simply because it was a free sample, and I love free stuff! I was impressed initially that the sample pack contains 3 patches. The product is super thin and comfortable. It contains 3% Menthol and 10% Methyl salicylate (NSAID). I got my sample pack about a week ago, but just used it today. A combination of nasty weather and planting flowers with my neices has left me unable to move my neck without excruciating pain today. I’ve taken my prescription meds, but got no real relief. I’ve used heat and ice…nothing. So, I got out the Salonpas. Ready for this? It works! Don’t get me wrong, I still can’t move my neck, but now it only hurts when I move it. Before I put the patch on, it was sensitive to touch. The patch has relieved the sensitivity to touch and the pain when I’m still.

The patch really is super thin and made of a stretchy material …it reminds me of the stretchy cloth band-aids. One downside is that it has a very strong smell. You know the smell…Icy Hot, Ben Gay, that kind of smell. It’s not just noticeable to the person wearing it, either. My son made it clear that he can smell it 2 rooms away ;-)   Right now, though, I honestly wouldn’t care if it smelled like rotten milk.

This product does contain medication, so the product directions must be followed (only 1 patch at a time, no more than 2 per day, etc).  If it gives me any amount of relief, you can be sure it’ll work on general soreness.

Check it out. Get your FREE sample (while supplies last, limited quantities daily) HERE.  Let me know what you think!
